MONTAGE OF A NARDI WOOD STEERING WHEEL D.I.Y.
Steering wheel D.I.Y. Montage
Before you do anything , make sure that both front wheels of the car are straightly aligned.
+ that both side of your steering wheel spokes are at the same level right and left.
Lower spoke at 6 AM.
To undo your original black plastic RR steering wheel:
You will need some tools:
- 2 flat kitchen knives with thin but strong blade.
- 1 large screwdriver with about 8 mm wide flat end to act as a lever.
- 1 thin flat tip screwdriver to remove 3 small screws
- A Long Neck “Husky” 24 mm to undo the locking nut on the hub.
- A self-adhesive paper Tape roll to hold the flat knives.
First : The center round horn button cap has to be pulled upwards.
In order not to make markings on the edges of the soft black plastic RR steering wheel which is surrounding the round Horn push cap, you place the tip of each knives under the border of the Horn push cap and lift the cap slightly. Then you go with the tip of the large screw driver OVER the blade of one knife under the board of the round cap and use as a lever to pull the round center cap upwards.
Quiet hard to pull. Do a strong lever.
When the cap is loose, pull it out of the center, undo the wire connection, place the top horn button cover and spring on the side.
Undo the 3 small screws holding another cover.
Place the cover and spring and 3 screws on the side.
Undo the horn wiring connection.
Then with the long neck 24 mm Husky you undo the locking nut securing the steering wheel to the steering column.
Pull the washer and nut and pull upwards the steering wheel.
It will come upwards.
To place the Nardi steering wheel on the RR Steering column.
Pull the center horn button and trim ring off the center.
Leave the steering wheel bolt on the lower hub. Do not undo the steering wheel from the hub.
Place the hub with the steering wheel so that the lower spoke is at 6 AM and the right and left spokes are level to each other.
Close the hub with your own locking nut. Do not place the horn or anything else.
Now you have to drive the car to see that when you drive that the steering wheel is with both spokes level to each other.
If one spoke is not perfectly level, it means that one spoke is more downside then the other. For example the right spoke is more down , then you will have back home to pull the steering wheel upwards again and turn it on the left side one or 2 or more teeth of the spline shaft more down.
If it is the left spoke you do similar way.
Try again driving and when the wheel is perfectly level when you drive on a straight road then you can then close the locking nut firmly
Fixing a steering wheel LEVEL correctly never comes at one go!
Do not forget the washer.
The horn wiring goes through the spline shaft of your RR and through the hole of the hub.
Then you place the top trim ring in place and connect the wiring of your horn into the Nardi horn button and push the Nardi horn button into the center of the steering wheel.
